At the intersection of Highways 101 and 110 is the real centre of the sprawling city of Los Angeles: Downtown L.A. Early-20C brick buildings rub shoulders with a forest of skyscrapers. The financial centre and business district, Downtown is very lively during the daytime, but empties out at night. El Pueblo, the city's historical neighbourhood, is popular with tourists, while the Arts District, recently injected with new energy, has bars and trendy restaurants.
