Il parere della Guida Michelin
This compact museum, superbly renovated in 2016, exhibits a magnificent collection of kamakura-bori, remarkably fine lacquerware made by carving patterns in wood (Judas or gingko) and lacquering it (urushi lacquer). This technique, known as mokucho-saishitsu (carving and lacquering of wood to highlight these objects, generally consigned to obscurity in temples), did not come to Kamakura by chance. It was linked to the production of religious objects needed by the new temples that appeared in the 13C.
