In Chicago, over 30 sandy beaches lie on the shores of Lake Michigan, from the north to the south. Some, on the northern edge of the city, are no wider than a block of houses. Others have public baths, huts and various facilities. A few have nature trails, or tennis or volleyball courts. But if you were to test just one, then make it Oak Street Beach, where it is a joy to swim in the shadow of Drake Hotel.
