Glynn Purnell’s characterful beamed pub is set in one of the UK’s prettiest high streets. The modern renovation has been beautifully done and, while the elegant bar offers a great atmosphere and some bar snacks, diners should head to the bistro to enjoy everything from burgers and their signature black pudding scotch egg to Wiltshire pork cutlet with sauce charcutière and some moreish smoked mash. Prices are keen and service, on the ball.
