The construction works that finished in 2002 on the Canal du Centre, between Strépy-Bracquegnies and Thieu, resulted in this impressive boat lift (110m high, 130m wide and 75m deep) which makes it possible for 1 350t barges to cross a height difference of 73.15m in 2hr. The upper level of the lift is home to a museum area dedicated to the history of Belgian inland navigation. Pretty views of the canal.
