It was in this clearing that Martial Foch's carriage was met by that of the German negotiators near Tergnier station on 8 November 1918. The Armistice was signed on the 11th at 5.15am... 22 years later, on 21 June 1940 Hitler met there with the French delegation to impose a new armistice upon them. The Memorial, with a recreation of Martial Foch's carriage, draws a link between both conflicts.
