In 15 AD, Emperor Tiberius decided to send the Apollinaris (Apollo's) legion up the Danube to repel the Marcomans. Today, the many Ancient vestiges unearthed on the territory of Petronell-Carnuntum and the neighbouring town of Bad Deutsch-Altenburg form an archaeological park that brings back to life this Ancient Roman city, which was destroyed in 407 and forgotten.
