On completion of the bridge in the 18C, the town spilled over its medieval boundaries. Entire streets were built in the new Georgian style, such as Barossa Place with its grandiose mansions, and Rose Terrace, dominated by the Old Perth Academy (1807). Right behind Charlotte Street, leading from Tay Street, lies a short terrace of Georgian houses.
