The catacombs are a fascinatingly macabre labyrinth of corridors, where two thousand mummies dressed from head to toe are displayed: Capuchin monks, but also physicians, lawyers, soldiers in dress uniform... The men standing, hanging on the wall, and the women generally lying flat inside recesses, look as if they are waiting for you for one last conversation between good friends. The mummy in the best condition is that of Rosalia Lombardo, a two year-old girl who died in 1920.
