After a period of neglect in the 1960s-1970s, since the 1980s Downtown has been undergoing a revival. Part of the riverbank has been converted into River Front Walk, a section of Main Street is now a pedestrian zone and South Main Street is packed with artists' studios and art galleries. That said, whole blocks of the district are strangely deserted come evening, but the brightly-lit and noisy Beale Street will satisfy anyone in search of nightlife.
