This route takes in the Criação Velha area, immediately south of the town, and links Calhau or Candelária to Criação Velha via the red dirt tracks used by winegrowers. Escorted by low walls of black lava, you'll have plenty of time to take in the special features of this unique landscape, discover the properties and ramps used to roll the barrels to the boats, while gazing out to sea at Horta and taking a break in front of the red and photogenic moinho do Frade (mill).
