Adjacent to the forum, to the east, the episcopal district of ancient Philippi is one of the best preserved of those of the ancient cities of the Balkans. The octogonal basilica, the city's former cathedral, was built c 400 and still has a few mosaic pavements and part of its stunning marble flooring. As you leave the area, you will go close to the bishop's residence.
