Bare and dotted with dry-stone walls, Baravitalla plateau was once populated; it has retained ruins from this period, including a necropolis. On the road to Ispica, look out for the so-called castle in the centre of the rift; several storeys high, this residential complex was inhabited up until the 1950s, despite being so inaccessible.
