Its 560 000ha surface area makes this nature reserve one of the largest in Europe. It includes high mountains, hundreds of lakes, the powerful Vindelälven River, a wealth of plant life, ranging from orchids to copses, and a bird sanctuary. The extremely varied wildlife includes wolverines, bears, lynx, silver foxes - the reserve's symbol - and a permanent herd of 25 000 reindeer.
