The vast Maggia Valley occupies a fifth of the surface area of the canton of Ticino, between Lake Maggiore and summits close to 3 000m altitude. It owes its harmonious beauty to the landscapes created by a peasant society that put to use the stone to be found everywhere, gneiss, to build superb villages. The prospect of very fine views, but also opportunities for relaxation, as there are a few sandy riverside beaches tucked away in the valley.
