The old town, bounded by 8km of ramparts pierced by five gates, still boasts dozens of these century-old residences, their facades flanked by balconies and jali delicately sculpted from red sandstone. The oldest of these, which can be discovered through a labyrinth of narrow streets, date back to the 18th century. You'll find the most beautiful and best-preserved in the south-western part of the old town, around the Rampuria Haveli.
