For safety reasons, tourists are advised to avoid this region. The Chalbi Desert extends to the east of Lake Turkana. Occupying the site of an old dried-out salt lake, the desert comprises sand dunes surrounded by arid landscapes which are challenging to cross. Gabbras nomads collect salt here, which they then sell in Marsabit.
